Monroe deserves transparency.

Shop Monroe First presents itself as a community-first platform supporting businesses throughout Monroe County. Community members and business owners, however, have raised questions about its selection criteria, promotional practices, commercial connections, and responses to criticism.

Stand Up Monroe is an independent community-accountability project created to examine those concerns, preserve relevant public information, and provide residents and businesses with a place to share documented experiences that may have been censored elsewhere by Shop Monroe First.

We support Monroe County businesses. We also believe that any platform claiming to represent them should operate transparently, welcome reasonable questions, and clearly distinguish community advocacy from personal or commercial promotion.

Why we are speaking up.

Monroe County’s businesses deserve support that is transparent, inclusive, and accountable to the community it claims to represent.

Shop Monroe First has positioned itself as a community-driven initiative dedicated to promoting local businesses. Yet questions remain about how businesses are selected, how the platform’s “preferred” designations are determined, how closely the initiative is connected to its founder’s personal business interests, and how criticism or reasonable questioning is handled.

​

Residents have reported being blocked, muted, or removed after raising concerns. Business owners have described experiences that conflict with the polished community-first image presented publicly. Public-facing content also raises legitimate questions about whether the platform consistently centers Monroe’s businesses—or the individual operating it.

These concerns should not disappear simply because they are inconvenient.

Stop Shop Monroe First is an independent community-accountability project. We collect firsthand experiences, analyze publicly available content, preserve relevant records, and publish evidence-based findings so Monroe residents and businesses can make informed decisions.

We are calling for Shop Monroe First to cease operating as a purportedly impartial community initiative and for businesses, public figures, media organizations, and community partners to reconsider lending it their credibility.

This project does not endorse harassment, threats, doxxing, or personal attacks. Our purpose is documentation, transparency, and accountability. Claims submitted to the site are reviewed before publication, and Shop Monroe First is invited to respond to documented findings or request the correction of factual errors.
